UIAA General Assembly – Malta, 8 – 9 November 2024

ClimbMT will soon welcome delegates attending the UIAA 2024 General Assembly on November 8-9. This prominent event will bring together leading representatives from climbing and mountaineering federations worldwide to discuss future strategies and key initiatives around governance, climate action and sustainability, and global safety standards. This is the second time that ClimbMT is hosting UIAA federation meetings, previously in 2019 the management board, executive committee and various UIAA commissions also met very successfully in Malta.  The General Assembly places Maltese climbing on the global stage and highlights the country’s growing prominence in the global climbing community and aligns with Malta’s ongoing sustainability efforts. Over 125 delegates from around 50 countries will assemble in Malta for this event.

Gathering for Climbers and Public Events

Alongside the assembly, ClimbMT will host a climbers’ gathering on Sunday, November 10, inviting the Maltese climbing community to meet international delegates and enjoy climbing across in various popular and scenic  climbing locations in Gozo: Mġarr ix-Xini, Wied il-Mielaħ, Forna Point, and Dwejra.  You can find information about this gathering here.

Advancing Skills and Safety Training

On November 11, ClimbMT will host a Climbing Skills Seminar focused on multipitch climbing, led by UIAA Training Commission members. This seminar will cover essential skills for climbing instructors and provide training insights for developing Malta’s own multipitch climbing program. Following the seminar, the UIAA Training Commission and Safety Commission will convene in Malta on November 12-13 to further their work on international climbing standards and educational resources.With the assembly and community events, ClimbMT aims to foster connections between local and international climbers, reinforcing Malta’s role in the climbing and mountaineering community.
